Sole Practitioners and Micro Firms
Overworked and underpaid sole CPA practitioners are increasingly deciding to merge their practice into Dark Horse CPAs. As a Dark Horse Principal, they gain the resources needed to scale their book of business, increase their fees, work more efficiently and join a collaborative team that helps them handle any tax or accounting issues with clients that may arise during client service. The Dark Horse model removes the ceiling on their earnings and helps them live a more balanced life.Book a Discovery Call
Our Dark Horse platform.
The Dark Horse Platform includes all the technology, collaboration, and operational systems needed to operate a successful practice. When we built the company, we thought about everything a sole practitioner would need to succeed and brought those things together. We also understand the need to "go at it together" rather than alone, which is the single greatest piece of the puzzle that Dark Horse can bring you.
Support On All Sides
You’ll be covered by the Peer Reviews we do at a firm-level, and you won’t have to worry about administering your own corporation, payroll, professional liability insurance, etc.
On-demand fractional and full-time staffing
We have both domestic and overseas staff that can handle everything from administrative work to accounting and tax work. You can hire your own support as well.
A supportive peer group that will help you GROW!
Dark Horse CPAs stick together. We help each other grow in all areas of accounting and tax and emerging issues (think COVID-relief legislation, changing tax guidance, etc.)
Everyone's business and client base are unique. Our transition plan is customized to each incoming Principal. In general, it starts with outlining client scope and type, crafting communication, rolling up software licenses, and promoting the new addition in our public platforms. It is a 4-6 week process with dedicated support from key executives during the entire transition.Success Stories
How long does the transition process take if I decide to join the Dark Horse Team as a Principal?
We target a 6-week transition process. However, this is unique to your situation, the software you currently use, and how you operate your current practice. We create a customized transition plan for every incoming Principal to ensure everything is accounted for.
Is Dark Horse acquiring my client base?
No, all your clients remain your clients. There is no non-compete with Dark Horse, and we like it that way. We know that the best person to serve your clients is you!
How do I know that this is a financially beneficial move for me?
As an Accelerator, we want to make sure you are financially stable during the time you are building your book of business, so we offer different compensation plans depending on your financial needs.
As an incoming Principal, we take the last 12 months of your P&L and compare them to what the same financials would look like under the Dark Horse model. Transparency in this process is extremely important to us, and we want to make sure you have all the information you need to make the right decision.
What happens if I am using software that is not part of Dark Horse's tech stack?
There are two options here:
Option 1: We can transfer your clients into the software we use at Dark Horse if you like them and think they will create more efficiency for you when servicing or managing your team.
Option 2: You can stay on the software you use (even if Dark Horse as a company is not using it). However, the cost of that software would be billed to your P&L as an expense you use to operate your business. For a deeper understanding of how that works, please book a meeting with us, and we will be happy to elaborate.book a meeting with us, and we will be happy to elaborate.
How do you ensure that client relationships are maintained and transferred appropriately?
We believe in communication “early and often” during the transition. This is meant to be a celebration and not a headache, especially for your clients. Once we have all client information ported into our systems, we draft communications out of our systems (but coming from you) announcing the change, the steps (if any) the client needs to go through, and any other changes relevant to your relationship. We send these out a couple of times to ensure everyone is up to speed on the transition without overwhelming them with any irrelevant information.
Dark Horse also provides onboarding support for you if a client has an issue or concern.
